Although the list of words is old and the word shall is no longer frequently used, the list has held up as a reliable indicator of frequently used words. It has been argued that up to 70 of all words used in schoolbooks, library books, newspapers, and magazines are a part of the Dolch basic sight word vocabulary. The Dolch sight words are a list of the 220 most frequently found words in print in English childrens book lists of the 1940s. The goal is to expose children to the words in many different ways so all learning modalities are tapped to meet the individualized learning styles and maximize reading interest and success. That list contained 220 sight words, words which need to be quickly and easily recognized to achieve reading fluency in English as well as an additional list of 95 important nouns. Worksheets offer a variety of activities to see the words, underline the words, match them in some way, arrange letters/ sentences to spell words and sentences, etc. Pre-primer Primer First Second Third a: look: all: out: after: let: always: or: about: laugh: and: make: am: please: again: live: around: pull: better: light: away. Assorted games can be played to target Dolch sight words like word Bingo, a version of GO Fish, concentration, etc. You could display words on a word wall or have children write their own word books to include the given sight words.
